(SBN) –  Push back continues against a tough-talking, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin sheriff who says he’s accepted a post with the Department of Homeland Security; that, as DHS, in an email to Mother Jones has yet to confirm Sheriff David Clarke‘s claim:

“Such senior positions are announced by the Department when made official by the Secretary,” a department spokeswoman said in an email to Mother Jones. “No such announcement with regard to the Office of Public Engagement has been made.”

Meantime, at least one Milwaukee resident has added his voice to the chorus of those denouncing Clarke, saying he would be “bad for the nation.” Black has sued Clarke for “unlawful stop and arrest” for an incident that occurred at an aiport in Texas.

SBN’s Kim Lampkins has more …

In a related note, CNN National Security Analyst Juliette Kayyem has written a letter to Homeland Security John Kelly urging him to not hire Clarke.

Among Kayyem’s comments:

The announcement was met with a flurry of criticism: Clarke, who is staunchly conservative, said earlier this year that the only time he would reach across the aisle would be to grab a Democrat “by the throat.” And previously he had compared the Black Lives Matter movement to the Ku Klux Klan.
But Clarke is not just a provocative speaker.  On his watch, prisoners have died, a woman lost a baby during childbirth and, most recently, an inmate deprived of water for a week died …”
” … Clarke is not only unfit to serve, he will not serve you well. His divisive rhetoric and action will make him an impossible figure for communities to engage with — and that is a critical part of the job …”
